If you’re looking for fine-wine wonderland, this is it: an estate elaborately designed in the style of an Indian palace by the flamboyant Louis Gaspard d’Estournel, once dubbed the Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe.
Today, the wines are similarly splendid, at once silky and structured and capable of ageing for decades. No cellar is complete without a few cases: no matter the occasion, a bottle of Cos d’Estournel will always impress.
A fabulous wine from a difficult year, the 2011 vintage in particular shows the château’s skill to the max.
